ABOUT US

Vision & Mission

According to state and national assessments, black and brown children in the Milwaukee area have the lowest literacy scores (U.S. Department of Education. Institute of Education Sciences, National Center for Education Statistics, National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), 2022 Reading Assessment). This statistical measure of low literacy scores is the same all across the country for black and brown children. While this could be a site to share statistics that shine a negative light on the fate of our children and discuss how the achievement gap has widened, this is a place to find joy and hope in our children, which welcomes ALL readers and writers at different spaces on their reading journey.
